The Math-Computer Science Awareness Day celebration will take place on
Thursday, February 27, 2003 at the
University of Houston-Victoria

demonstrations, hands on
activities, and workshops
dealing with math and computer science. During
the celebration, the University of
Houston-Victoria and Victoria
College will conduct mathematics and computer
science contests for local high
schools.
The program of the celebration:
3:00 - 3:25 p.m. - Check-in at
the Ben Wilson street entrance just inside the
Univ. Center building
3:30 - 4:05 p.m. - Math contest

Each high school is allowed to
enter two teams for the computer science contest
(in addition to two teams for the
math contest.) Each team will
include one (1) student from each grade level
(9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade,
and 12th grade). Individual
medals for first through third will be awarded at
each grade level. The top two
overall scorers will receive
scholarships from Victoria College and University
of Houston-Victoria. Team trophies
for first through third will
also be awarded. Team scores will be determined
using the top three individual scores
from each team. Ties will be broken using percent accuracy.
The computer science contest
will be a 25-question multiple-choice tests
consisting of base conversion and data
type through arrays, strings,
pointers, loops, structures, functions in C/C++,
but no OOP. No calculator
permitted. Students will need
to bring a no. 2 pencil for the contest. Students
must verify their grade level by

letterhead stating the student=s current
grade level status the day of the contest.
