The Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Processing Department at Nassau Community College will be celebrating Math Awareness Month with a Kick-Off Celebration on MARCH 28, 2003. Included on this day will be professional artist Bonnie Newman, who will present a slide show on various artists who use mathematics in their work, as well as lead all participants in a hands-on project. The day will also include NCC students from last year's Summer Research Program presenting their work. Finally, there will be a display of "Function Drawings" created by some local high school students. Throughout the month of APRIL there will be a lecture series on various Math and Art topics. Topics include: Anamorphic Art, International Perspectives on Math and Art, Tilings, and the work of MC Escher. This year's activities are coordinated by Laurie Delitsky, Jared Ganson, and Theresa Vecchiarelli.
