- Short Description:  A week-long university-wide mathematics scavenger hunt and math and computer science festival for high school students
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at USD is deeply committed to improving mathematical and computer science education. Our scavenger hunt and Mathematics and Computer Science festival are part of our ongoing efforts towards this end. Our "Mathematics is Everywhere" scavenger hunt is a week-long event for USD students, April 28-May 2, as well as an hour long event for local high school students on May 3rd. The Math and Computer Science department solicited questions from all departments/programs in the University to include in the Math Scavenger Hunt. One of our goals is to have students realize the role math plays in every aspect of our lives, though they may not often think about it. Additionally, we'd like to give them an excuse to discover different departments on campus. USD's Math and Computer Science Problem Solving Festival is the culmination of our Mathematics Awareness Month celebration. This event for high school students will consist of a math or computer science contest, a scavenger hunt, and a lunch with guest speakers. Door prizes and contest prizes will be awarded.
