- Short Description:  Mathematics Awareness open house
Come and see how to use math in real-world situations!
The College of Central Florida math department has scheduled the Math Awareness Month open house for Wednesday April 10, 2013 from 12:00-1:30 pm. The math department fully embraces Mathematics Awareness Month because it sheds light on the Math Lab's mission statement. Furthermore, we are here to communicate with and to motivate our students, as well as the community-at-large, who have uncertainties and difficulties surrounding the various segments of mathematics. Therefore, having a month set aside to bring awareness to mathematics gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the meaning behind the mathematics and set it in full force.
To kick off Mathematics Awareness Month, Ocala Utility Services will show how mathematics is involved in the sustainability of providing water resources to the community. Florida Environmental Express will have a display table and will talk about recycling. Math department staff will assist attendees in calculating their carbon footprints. The CF sustainability chair, Kevin Justin, will share CF's recycle stats, tree planting efforts; fuel usage, utility reports and campus building stats.. Professor Steve Mackenzie will enlighten us as well from the science department.
Come have some refreshments and some fun while you learn. Learning can never be erased. For information call Selestine Washington-Poole, 854-2322 ex 1259.
