The student competition will be, in general terms, one where they have to find an optimal route on a network in the shortest time. The winner will receive a $250 scholarship. The talk's title will be: "Mathematics and Networks, or Some People Say Math Is Garbage and They May Not Be So Far Off." It will discuss some history of graph theory going back to Euler's seven bridges, and include how modern applications can plan routes over city streets for garbage trucks for example. The winners of the student competition will be announced during the talk.
