PGCC was awarded an NSF grant to develop interdisciplinary, compter problems, using EXCEL, for its Finite Mathematics Course (MAT 112)from the National Science Foundation. Students were given statistics on AIDS from 1992-1997. These statistics were grouped according to ethnicity, region of the US, gender, and incident category. Some sections of MAT 112 worked with the number of people living with AIDS and other sections considered the number of AIDS deaths. The project was to predict values for 1999. Students were also required to write an analysis of their results. This project dovetailed with a project done by the Nursing Department on AIDS. A series of lectures on AIDS is being conducted for both the college and community.
